Republicans Deaf and Dumb on Impeachment

Republicans Deaf and Dumb on Impeachment

Hello Everybody. I have something to say about Republicans.

I’m talking specifically about those elected to Congress as the people’s representatives. Could someone please tell me what turned congressional Republicans into a ragtag band of sycophants bowing and scraping to President Donald Trump?

These Republicans were on display in all their vainglory during the House hearings into the impeachment of President Trump.  They squealed, shouted, interrupted and insulted witnesses while putting on a pitiful defense of the president. They had no facts, no evidence, just “hoax”, “witchhunt” and “scam.” If you watched the testimony and had only half a brain it would probably be clear, that our president is corrupt and should not only be impeached but kicked out of office.

Yet, except for Senator Mitt Romney some time ago, not one Republican in Congress has had the cojones to speak out against the President’s misconduct. Aren’t there some— one or two— Republicans who will say Trump has violated his oath of office? But they say nothing. Nothing.

A close friend of mind says the congressional Republicans act like they are in a cult. A Trump cult. I can imagine that— like they drank the Kool-Aid and can’t and won’t, speak ill of Trump, under any circumstances.  Are they so anxious to get re-elected that they are putting party before country? God help us. I don’t think history will look kindly on the Congressional Republicans of today.

Fear and Loathing in America

Fear and Loathing in America

Hello Everybody.  I have something to say about “fear and loathing,” in all of America. The 255 mass shootings so far this year have freaked us out. The white nationalist expressions of racial hatred and anti-Semitism have made us afraid to go work, shopping, church, school, movies and doing things outdoors. We don’t feel safe anywhere.  And to make things even more scary is the fact that most Americans have no confidence that the government will take the actions or pass the laws that would calm our fears and keep us safe.

The most visible of fear was the video taken in Times Square when a motorcycle back-fired and hundreds of tourists ran for their lives because they thought somebody was shooting a gun at them.

When Trump gave his inaugural address, he spoke of “American carnage.” That struck me. It was an odd description. Now I wonder if he were talking about the past or predicting the future? Because we are definitely seeing the carnage.

President Franklin Delano Roosevelt told Americans when we entered World War Two, that the only thing they had to fear, was fear itself. With apologies to FDR…today we have to fear young white men with tiny little brains and great big guns.

Until next time.

Mueller Time, Not Great

Mueller Time, Not Great

Hello Everybody. I have something to say about Robert Mueller’s performance before two House committees. To be blunt, it was bad. It was sad.

The Special Counsel reluctantly agreed to testify about his investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election. When Mueller began answering questions, he seemed to start going downhill.

It pains me to say it, but Mueller looked old, older than his 75 years. His speech was halting, and he kept asking his House interrogators to repeat the question. At times he seemed confused. Unfortunately, I think most people came away from the hearings not remembering Mueller’s assertion that the president could be indicted after he leaves office, but with a strong impression that Mueller is losing it.

New York Congressman Hakeem Jeffries said the Democrats didn’t ask Robert DeNiro to testify, they asked Robert Mueller. Well, that’s what they got. And he did little to increase calls for impeachment.

       See you next time.

Impeach Trump Now

Impeach Trump Now

Hello Everybody.  I have something to say about impeachment. It is time.

Ever since he was elected president, Donald Trump has boasted that he is making America Great Again. Well, if you haven’t noticed—and I have noticed– he has made America great for some people, rich people.  But for ordinary Americans, not so much. This “president” took our nation’s core values of equality, justice and freedom and shredded them, letting them fall where they may.

So why hasn’t Congress begun impeachment hearings to get him out of office? The Mueller report didn’t exonerate him from the impeachable offense of obstruction of justice. What else does he have to do? He’s played footsie with dictators, taken us to the brink of war, used racist comments and even been accused of rape. He said himself that if he shot somebody, he would not lose any voters. What does he have to do?

In the House of Representatives only 80 Democrats out of 235 support impeachment. Nancy Pelosi, the Speaker of the House, is one of the wisest old women there is, but she doesn’t support impeachment.

If the holdup is about the 2020 Elections and the future of the Democratic Party, then that would be a shame. The Congress would not be serving We the People but serving themselves and their elections. Nancy, say it ain’t so and get on with it. The longer Trump remains in office the more havoc he will wreak on our democracy.

See you next time.
